Darragh Brady
I took Kristina Logan's one week course at the Corning Museum of
Glass last summer (fellow SGB- MA member Mickey Kunkle was there
too) and had a wonderful week learning more about the zen of
beadmaking. Kristina encourages you to slow down (hard for me) and
to make the bead perfect at every step of the way.
So ever since that class I have been trying to remember to slow down
and do it right. One day I was sitting at my torch and I looked up
at the poster I have of her work that is on the wall over my bench
and thought "I should try to make one of her beads". I
took my time and, with some help from Corina Tettinger's new book on
dot placement, made the two beads you see here in the gallery.
Critical points? Getting the shape right before starting to put the
dots on. Placement of the first row of dots is critical, as all the
rest follow that pattern. And remembering to keep your bead warm as
you put all the damn dots on. It is very easy to get caught up in
just placing the dots and forget to keep the bead warm.
Enjoy.
