Deanna Griffin Dove, the Winner of the Summer 2003 Bead O'the Quarter
I have stopped making fish because I find
them an awkward form for a
bead. However, every once in a while I find a neat surface that I think
would make a good fish body...and I make fish again. This fish was made
with Moretti's new opal yellow. I threaded clear stringers around the
body, rolled in clear frit, rolled in silver foil, threaded more clear
stringers and then carefully absorbed some of the silver into the clear
glass by bouncing the bead in and out of a slight reduction flame. When
the clear turned golden, I melted the clear threads into the base bead and
went on to make the fins, then the eyes.
