Bead o'the Quarter Winter 2006
"I love this marble, because the colors
are so vibrant and the flower looks so crisp.
This was made
with Northstar Borosilicate. I coiled Cobalt Blue over Star
White and pulled a stringer. Then I heated up a ball of clear and
flattened it like a maria (not a lollipop). Then with the
stringer, I drew a circle in the center and then added "C"
shaped lines radiating outward in layers. At the very edge of the
maria I added a few squiggles of Jade Green for the leaves. Then I
just heated the edge of the face of the maria and gently flattened 5 or 6 times.
The leaves "imploded" to the very center. When that is done,
I rounded the back. I puntied the back and removed the rod from
the front. (The more clear you leave on the front as a lens, the
bigger your flower looks!) Then I kept puntying and rounding
all over maybe 6-10 times.
When it was nice and round, I found a spot for
my frog. I added a glob of Millenium Moss and
pulled upward and then melted it back down to form the head.
With very thin stringer, I added legs and toes, and doted the toes
with Amber Purple stringer. Then I added the eyes and I find
the bigger the better! Three dots of caramel on his back and he
is done! I annealed like crazy and ramped down ever so slowly."
